I view these in the same light as attempts to shut down strip clubs and the like. The reasoning often given is that they should not be situated near schools, churches etc., and that they involve exploitation of women. While the latter might well be true in some cases, I can't help feeling that they just don't want these establishments anywhere, period.

Ugly staid women out number the pretty & wild. We as neutral men need to defend the right of wild pretty women to get it off?klr wrote:I view these in the same light as attempts to shut down strip clubs and the like. I keep reading the subject line and thinking "lads" are the subject of the magazines. Mostly because of that missing apostrophe, of course.

That's what you get when you give people a legal right to not be offended... Silly twits.

And what about ladies' underwear packaging? Does handling and putting on display these items with pictures of women in their, well, bloody underwear warrant the same reaction? I think probably not.

There was a time back in Catholic Ireland when a wave of the Bishop's crozier* was enough to have lingerie removed from window displays.Trinity wrote:And what about ladies' underwear packaging? Now that I think of it, that episode may have contained some not-so-hidden references.PsychoSerenity wrote:klr wrote:There was a time back in Catholic Ireland when a wave of the Bishop's crozier* was enough to have lingerie removed from window displays.Trinity wrote:And what about ladies' underwear packaging? Based on what I read in the article, I'd be surprised if the legal challenge is successful in our courts.Seth wrote:That's what you get when you give people a legal right to not be offended... Silly twits.

Re: Shops could face legal action over 'lads' mags'
Not entirely sure that's accurate - many of the "fitness and health" mags have bikini bods on the coverMaybe the women's lifestyle mags (which also usually have beautiful women on the cover but with more clothes on) should start displaying barely clothed muscle heads to keep everyone happy.
Shape notably

a google search on their covers is...ahem...revealing and the sports mags are rife with scantily clad 20 somethings to the point of having separate annual editions ( Sports illustrated ).
and in the equal opportunity realm...his butt ???!!!!

Hey youth and beauty and sex attracts the eye....other forms of beauty as well ( travel mags ) but even there a lovely girl is often a feature.
I think the action contemplated is far over the top and if the staff are uncomfortable get moved to a different department or get a different job.
Hell - what next.....nurses complaining about "handling"??

I would be very surprised, but they might well be satisfied with 2nd prize, as in putting it on the public radar as an "issue" - rightly or wrongly.Pappa wrote:Based on what I read in the article, I'd be surprised if the legal challenge is successful in our courts.Seth wrote:That's what you get when you give people a legal right to not be offended... What is with the PG men's magazines the UK produces? Why would you want breasts and panties in a magazine you paid money for? Who is the audience? They throw in cars and consumer gadgets, I forget what all was in there.
