Yes, we were involved with a VERY old lady for a long time. We've only just officially, completely, broken up with her.

Actually, that's not quite true - we still do have some ceremonial links left... but at from a legal standpoint you can no longer go to the old dame for help if you don't like the laws here in Aust.

Some schools get some world or US history earlier than high school, but each state sets its own standards, so you get 50+ different sets of "standards".

And of course, you get about 3.7 billion years less history in the bible belt.

Yeah, but even there they rarely get past Deuteronomy until college.

You must have had an easy time in school Gawd. I mean, there hardly was any history then, was there?

I had plenty of time to learn, I didn't have to take five years to learn to spell my name.

Okay, sorry for my absence folks. I was out last week drinking, partying, and chasing tail. My friend has a yearly 4th of July get together, and we decided to take a day of excess, and turn it into a weekend of excess, then a full week of excess. My liver was not amused.

Your liver has my sympathies. The rest of you has my envy!

Anyway, now that some of you have gotten to know me a bit better feel free to shoot more questions my way. Nothing 'safe' please. I prefer my questions to come with lots of nuance or subtle subtext! I'll have to think of some for you all as well. Cheers!
OK, here's a question for you. Are American kiddies taught that the pilgrims were the first colonists of the USA (as in I know this probably isn't actually said by the teachers, but is it what's implied and the message that the kids end up learning). And a follow-up, is the importance of the pilgrims overstated in teaching history in American schools? And a second follow-up, you didn't want a question about yourself, did you?
A question! Honestly, I really don't remember much. Columbus I think was what we had for discovery of America then the Pilgrims etc. I really haven't learned about this since 8th grade. My education in history was 5th grade (Pennsylvania history), 7th grade (World cultures), 8/9th grades (American History), 10th grade (World History), 11th grade (Government), 12th grade (Civics). Since I'm science/pre-medical my strength in this discipline is very low.
As far as questions about myself, shoot. I'll answer just about anything.

What is your favorite color?
What is the purpose of your quest?
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Currently I'm not yet in a medical school, as I'm 4th year undergraduate. My last college was Juniata College, a small private institution in Pennsylvania. However, I'm in the process of transferring to Penn State University to finish up my credits. I consider a degree there to carry more weight outside of my state, which with the general difficulties of medical school application, will be beneficial.
I am hoping to attend the Uniformed Services Medical School in DC, as I wish to join the US Public Health Service once I finish my medical education. In fact, I'm currently working on obtaining an internship which comes with a commission. Though, with most medical applicants, I pretty much will go wherever will take me. From what I hear Grenada is the Harvard (Oxford) of the Caribbean. I jest only slightly.
Keep 'em coming.
