I just got back from a 10,000+ mile trip to Pennsylvania, New York and Kentucky (and points between).

I probably do between 15 and 20 thousand in a standard year, commuting and such....

But this 10,000 km is a 7 week road trip to Northern Australia we'll be making in July and August...

I used to enjoy really pushing it with long distance driving, but these days, 8 or 9 hours behind the wheel per day is my limit...

Drove from the South of France to Oxfordshire (ferry in the middle) in one haul - a bit over 900 miles. Mrs Rum was poking me in the ribs every couple of minutes to keep me awake for the last couple of hours.

Driving tired is at least as dangerous, if not more so, than driving drunk. I use a 30 minute power nap when I get drowsy. Pull over, nap in the driver's seat for 30 to, but not more than 45 minutes and you can take off well refreshed. Works about twice in a day. After that my body just says I'm going to sleep no matter what, so I'd better find a hotel room or campground tut suite.

Having driven three 21 hour stretches.. I have to agree with Seth. Driving tired is very dangerous.

I once drove about 175 miles, going from college to home (something I did twice a month or more), and I remember driving out of the parking lot of the school and I remember arriving at my house. I remember nothing of the entire drive, which evidently I did on autopilot. Fortunately, I did it in the wee small hours of the night so there was almost no traffic, which is probably why I didn't crash.

I quit doing anything like that right after than event. I pay really close attention to being drowsy and take vigorous precautions right away. I used to be able to do the 36 hour shifts on the ambulance, but these days at 26 hours max, my body just shuts down very quickly. I have no choice at all, I just fade to black. Sucks getting old.
