It depends what you mean as right and left. In the US neither our right or left is all that far right or left. We have a huge center. We tend not to have extremes in our Congress. Arnie is "right" but it's basically just "right of center" on most issues. He's probably left of center as a Republican, because of his stances on some social issues. He's more of a libertarian Republican, than a conservative Republican, I guess.
We have a very small socialist demographic here in the US, and we have a very small fascist contingent. That's one of the big complaints people have over here is that through all the caterwauling there ends up being little practical difference between the Democrats and Republicans. Really the differences are on taxes and abortion. Other than that, they even swap sides on issues, depending on who is in power and whose ox is being gored.
