I'm using magnetic energy to create a natural quantum tunnel that lets toxins out of your liver that Western medicine can't detect, and I don't want to hear any shit about it, because I am a doctor.

Head meds, when used well, can have some usefulness...Scrumple wrote:Then there's the entire field of psychiatry.

Re: The Red Flags of Quackery
Prozac is a example of a drug which is hugely popular and doesn't work as prescribed. Causing permanent changes in personality. Shortening tempers and making people into short fused 'optimists' rather than curing depression. Other drugs are in the category 'don't know how it works but it might' and sometimes it does then sometimes people commit suicide on their anti-depressants....it's quackery and snake-oil. Like people who play the stock market psychiatrists claim the 'knowledge' when it goes right with meds and and short the market by claiming not to know everything when the meds don't go so well. The process is random at heart and ultimately a third get well, a third are stable on meds, and a third are going downhill fast. A change is coming with the arrival of new high tech research technology on the scene, with the precision to investigate the inner cosmos, but it's been a long time coming and it ain't gonna be compatible with the village witch doctor quacks...hence the DSM-V (A No Hope)...last stand of the magician head doctors, in all reputable general science blogs etc starting last week.

Re: The Red Flags of Quackery
Prozac is drek as far as I'm concerned.
I'll be the first to admit that head meds have bad side effects... my inability to concentrate on stuff for more than a couple minutes is testimony to that... still, medication turned me from a complete wreck to a barely functional person back during my '91 breakdown. Not a real cure, but enough help that I could go by.

What research actually shows is that Prozac is marginally effective in about 60% of cases if one looks it up. It isn't the evil spawn that Scrumple insists it is, nor is it the wonder drug it was marketed as a couple of decades ago.

You might be right, there's a lot of opinions on Prozac out there....and they are mostly weighted even with stats attached.Rum wrote:What research actually shows is that Prozac is marginally effective in about 60% of cases if one looks it up.
