Quite, just. 13 is not just under the age of consent. I'd be surprised if the police failed to investigate a 17 year old having sex with a 13 year old if made aware of it.

They might well look into such an example, but if the boy was 15 - even 16 they almost certainly would not, unless of course there was any compulsion reported. Such cases are incredibly messy and getting to the truth of the matter can be as damaging as anything else involved.

Well, no I'm not. I'm commenting specifically on JFS's comment that he was jealous of a 17 year old who was bragging he was fucking a thirteen year old which is what was being discussed.

I'm saying that sort of shit has not been socially or legally acceptable for a long time. I'm not talking about some 16 year old laying into a girl a few months younger. There's been some questionable apologetics for this kind of behaviour on here as of late, excuses of it being a different time, or the girls being star-struck or knowing what they were getting into. All of that seems to me to suggest that somehow some adult males do not know the difference between fucking children and fucking women that they were somehow tricked into it and seek to somehow lay the blame at the door of the girls or women.

The law isn't very good at biology and hormones. The police arrest many people for having sex with vulnerable under-age children (many). They make a judgement in every case and though I am not in the business of defending them, when I worked in child protection I know the decisions were made very carefully.

Outside of marriage I don't think it has ever been socially or legally acceptable in Western Civilization since pre-Christian times.

I visited a Cornish tin mine once. As recently as the 1920s, the average, male life-expectancy was 24 and most "men" were married and making the next generation by the age of 14! The town had a lot of widows - but most marriages were between kids of similar age.

In the UK, girls were eligible to be married at puberty until 1875 when the age of consent was set at 13. It was then raised to 16 in 1885. However, in many rural areas, this was not strictly followed (if at all!)

In Ireland, we have the ludicrous situation in which if a boy of 14 and a girl of 15 have sex, he will get a criminal conviction for statutory rape, and the girl will get a hug and sympathy.
