Royal Mail will be sold off to the public within 12 months, echoing Margaret Thatcher’s privatisation policies of the 1980s.
Business minister Michael Fallon said it is his ‘firm intention’ for the process to be finished by next April, with experts predicting a £2-£3billion flotation on the stock market this autumn.
The historic move will allow anyone to buy shares in the former monopoly.

While I'm not a massive fan of privatising everything, the post really isn't so critical anymore and other companies can compete if they want to. Regulators can make sure they cover the entire country at a reasonable level

It has only taken this long because it has been losing millions. They put up their prices astronomically a year and a bit ago - no doubt to make it a more attractive business proposition for potential buyers.

I use it pretty regularly for parcels and I've always been happy with the quality of service. The international tracking leaves much to be desired though.
