And please tell me the little lizards wouldn't like to have more water, more prey and something to walk on that isn't 150F at noon.
Since they are exquisitely adapted to their desert environment, rapidly changing that environment may well make them extinct...

It has happened before...

So climate change could doom them as well? And where do we get the idea they couldn't adapt? And, bottom line, who gives a fuck?

You give a fuck about wolves...

Many of us give a fuck about other unique species; they don't have to be furry and warm-blooded...

But on the scale of things.. it seems the lesser of evils. Is it not so?

At the least, reclamation of areas of desert should be acceptable to those who view the biosphere in a subjunctive state of stasis.

No build nuclear power stations in the developed countries that are over-consuming, and let them take the consequences if they blow up. I'm sure they can adapt to a bit of radiation.

Leave our desert lizards alone.

I'd rather have humans alive, and land actually habitable, than dead humans, uninhabitable land, for the price of a million square miles of pristine desert.

Incidentally, nuclear fuel is filthy. Extraction and transport is dirty. Decommissioning is dirty, and very expensive.

There is a value in human that outweighs the value of other animals, and that includes animals in the desert.

Precisely. But hey, let the human mediated mass extinction continue

Wrong. If we destroy our planet by ignoring the consequences of our actions, not only will we wipe out the little critters, but we'll make the planet uninhabitable for humans as well.

It isn't a question of one or the other.

Tug at enough threads and your cardigan unravels

How the hell did you get from water power to deserts? Surely the wrong place to try it?

Anyway, where does the water come from, to green the deserts? ( nuclear fusion might do it, nothing else will ).
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

So, stopping the encroachment of the dunes and providing food for countless people, as well as expanding a habitat friendlier to life should not be done because of a few lizards.
