Big explosion in Texas

Post by JimC » Thu Apr 18, 2013 6:33 am

A fertiliser plant has exploded, creating havoc, with many deaths and injuries: http://www.theage.com.au/world/like-a-n ... 2i22f.html

You guys are having a tough time at the moment... :hugs: to the US

We can absorb a very large amount of damage. I already have.

No word yet it seems on whether it was deliberate or accidental.

ANFO is made from fertilizer and diesel fuel, so an explosion in a fertilizer plant isn't surprising.

Holy shit.

Why is a fertilizer plant so close to other buildings anyway? :(
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

You would think if the fertilizer had that kind of explosive potential, they wouldn't site the plant so near to dwellings.
I suppose they won't, now.

I hope it's not a BP plant.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

That's exactly what I was thinking...

From everything I've seen so far, a tragic accident...

Agreed, despite the timing and location, it does seem to be an accident.

That was my thought as well on seeing the overheads on TV. But there must be hundreds, thousands of similarly located plants in the USA alone.

There was another big one back in 1947, around 500 people dead and 3,500 injured.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I suspect the township didn't do its job and the dwellings were built AFTER the fertilizer plant.

That can often happen - it's up to rational planning laws to stop that from happening...

But I suppose libertarians would oppose any odious government restrictions on private enterprise...

Here's an idea. Stand with your kids and watch an explosives plant burn.
