Did this actually happen?
If so... when this outrageous crime against humanity is "contextualised", is it still presented as a despicable crime, or does "contextualise" mean "justify"?

It's legit, I'm on the Academy of Sciences mailing list. And you know as much as I do after reading that.

Re: One for Sandi...
The cold war lead to a lot of very iffy means justifying very paranoid ends.
On both sides.
One hopes the zeitgeist has moved on...
The whole drone thing now is another "means justifying ends" that is starting to look pretty iffy, in an ethical sense...

If I had to bet on it, I'd say it probably means to present this horrid crime as part of a larger culture of racism and Cold War Faustian deals.Cormac wrote:Gawdzilla Sama wrote:(Mods diving for their mouse to check this thread out.)

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

One would hope so, in that it would be surprising to see someone openly trying to justify it or downplay the rank criminality of itRobert_S wrote:If I had to bet on it, I'd say it probably means to present this horrid crime as part of a larger culture of racism and Cold War Faustian deals.Cormac wrote:Gawdzilla Sama wrote:(Mods diving for their mouse to check this thread out.)

Unreal.
No wonder conspiracy theorists abound, when this kind of thing happened.

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.
