Just found out this morning. Devastated. A great musician and friend. He was very kind to me and gave me some of the best advice I've ever had. And I know I'm not the only conductor who feels this way; the man was generous and completely honest. A huge loss to the music world.
RIP Sir Colin Davis

Sorry for your loss orpheus

Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

Thank you.Faithfree wrote:Sorry for your loss orpheus
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

Yes, sorry orpheus.
It's hard to lose someone you connected with both personally and professionally.

Re: RIP Sir Colin Davis
I have mostly his Sibelius works. Interestingly, his most famous set there was in Boston.
Davis had musical talent, but needed lots of learning in people skills before fame. I think he had to sub for an ill German conductor and was on his way to fame, 1950s.
