Like I said. It's a shame that it's the innocent who get hurt, on all sides. I wouldn't help or support anybody in that shit, from either side. But I'm more than happy to point out that this is what that shit is REALLY like, because the message doesn't seem to have got home.
If the people in Boston who put money in the collecting tins now have a better idea of what their money paid for, then they might feel some bit of guilt, and so they bloody well should.
Sure. There's been next to no major paramilitary action in NI for 15 years, and you think this after-the-fact "lesson" somehow constitutes a silver lining? Maybe Oklahoma City wasn't enough for them, eh? A lot more people dead*, but not close enough to home.

There's insensitivity, fucking insensitivity and then there's Mistermack.
There are members here that live in that city and many more that know people that do. Can't you save the inane, political points-scoring for later?

I'm an atheist.
I know perfectly well that nothing I write will ever even cause a scratch on anyone. It's pathetic, all this "you shouldn't say this or that" as if what I post has even the slightest effect on a bomb victim. It smacks of religious superstition.
Those people weren't hurt by internet posts, they were hurt by idiots, who think and act in exactly the same way, as the IRA, and their supporters.
And if the Real IRA started up again, Boston would be paying some of the bills, you can be sure of that. It's incredibly naive to think that it's all gone away for good.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

I always thought that the American Irish collecting money for the IRA was pretty appalling, but I also see no need to bring that issue up in this context, particularly with the "now see if you like it" message attached.

Probably not, though.
Well, IRA support from Irish Americans in Boston was dwarfed by the amount of IRA support that came from Irish people living in Ireland. So if a bomb were to go off in Ireland today, would you gloat and wag your finger at the Irish for having supported the IRA?
Or is this really just a case of you seeking every opportunity to give a big "fuck you" to the Americans?

I live in the Boston metro area, and mistermack is exactly correct. The U.S. is constantly blowing up civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen, and there's scarcely a peep from the west. Heck, today was tax day, we just helped pay for it. One attack on us, though, and there's an uproar.

Bah, the only reason you're supposing that it because of paltry things like evidence and unrelenting history...

Exactly.
Whoever it was, they managed to squeeze a major international news story out of a body count that, while horrendous, was probably less than a week's worth of auto accidents in the greater Boston area.

My understanding is that it's actually the opposite-- the money from Boston Irish dwarfed the amount that was raised in-country.
What the fuck any of that has to do with innocent people being blasted to bits in my hometown, where my family still lives, escapes me.

Actually, it smacks of sensitivity to those who care about the bomb victims. Maturity, in other words.

Yeah? Ireland is populated exclusively by drunks. France only has surrender monkeys. Russians are every last one drunks. Finns are ... well they're Finns, that's bad enough.

I was not. I need to start looking for a new job. We had easily ten trucks there and I was stuck doing the dialysis taxi circuit while I could have been helping people who really needed helping.
On the other hand, listening to the radio traffic from those who *were* there was very surreal.
