Logitech Unifying Software, boon or bane?

Post by Gawdzilla Sama » Sat Mar 30, 2013 1:36 pm

I just switched from the Big Beast to the laptop, and I took my trackball and keyboard with me. This Unifying Software made it easy. :{D

Too easy? :ask:

What exactly does it do? :ask:

Basically, you have one dongle that connects all your wireless devices. Wireless trackball mouse and wireless keyboard use the same dongle. If I add another Logitech device it will add that without adding another dongle. Frees up USB ports.

And Logitech devices come with the Unifying dongle now, so you can give one away to somebody and they won't have to pay for it.

I think most desksets now work off a single dongle.
I've had mine for several years. One set is Trust, the other is Medion.

I also have a little usb dongle bought off ebay for very little money, that converts a single usb to four, with no need for it's own power supply. It works perfectly. USB is great.

I always use the wireless keyboard and mouse set with the laptop. Can't stand having a laptop on my lap.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

That's a hub. Dongles go into USB slots.

True. This does go into a usb slot though. I have old type hubs, but they usually need a power supply, or only work at usb1 speeds.
These ebay ones are nice, they support four usb2 appliances, need no power supply, and are easy to use, because each of the four usb connections has it's own short cable. Great little bit of kit.

The Chinese seller I bought my new mobo from included a 4 port USB2.0 hub with it for no apparent reason. I have no use for it.
