Has hell frozen over?

Post by mistermack » Tue Mar 26, 2013 6:48 pm

Just noticed on wikipedia that the world baseball classic just finished, and america didn't win it !!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_World ... ll_Classic

WTF ?? I didn't think anyone else played it, apart from Japan and Cuba.

That's a bit like England not being the best in the world at cricket, soccer, rugby (either code), tennis, or ... oh wait. :hehe:

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

England's just a little country. We just like to teach the rest of the world how to be civilised, don't you know?

And we like a plucky loser. America don't like losing.

Lots of countries play baseball, but the really good American players didn't play in that series. In the US, Major League Baseball is what is important, and that's where the players make big money. the World Baseball Classic is basically an exhibition.

And England do? :funny:

I still remember the fallout of Torville and Dean losing to a young Russian couple.

Ah, but that was about fair play. Completely different. We teach the world about fair play, but they can't give up cheating.
Oh well, what can you expect from continentals who have never had the advantage of being part of the empire?

Traditionally, Merka has liked the underdog, prevailing against all odds based on heart and sweat.

1980 Miracle on Ice
Rudy Rudegger playing for Notre Dame
Michael Oher of the Ravens (a la the movie "Blind Side")
1994-95 New Jersey Devils
James J. Braddock
1969 Mets
Tom Brady
Buster Douglas
Rocky Balboa, lol.

We don't like losing, but we like the idea of winning as the underdog.

When you lose it...

When you win it, it's fucking awesome!

Mind you, it would be the same if Aussie rules football ever took off overseas, and Oz had to play (for example) Outer Mongolia, and fucking well lost...

The shit would hit the fan big time...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?

I don't think the US is doing/did so hot in that recent basketball thingy, either.

I hate basketball.

I love baseball and football (merkin and association style) -- I think rugby and aussie footy are fun, but I can't say I like them because they're just not on television enough.

I like hockey, but I used to be much more into it. I've sort of lost some interest.

I like to play basketball, but watching it is :bored: Come to think of it, I can say that about just about every sport. Fuck watching. I want to play, dammit! Blood and gore and veins in my teeth and like that...

Sod that.
