As for her apology I think it sounds legitimate. The detail and language she used makes sense with what I know about her. If it truly is a gross misunderstanding, that's unfortunate.

I do agree with her that religions ought to be free not to marry gays or straights or whatever. However, the State ought to be neutral on the issue, and allow legal marriages (marriages, of course, can be done by a notary public in some states, and a Justice O' Peace in others, etc. - they don't require priests and ministers).

I suspect she's wrong on the Jesus thing, though. LOL

It's just fear mongering. Nobody has proposed that Presbyterian ministers be forced to perform weddings for Wiccans much less any church be forced to marry same gender couples.

Ezactly. In Oz, a higher and higher proportion of marriages are being done by civil celebrants anyway. I have no issue with churches refusing to marry gay couples, but they ought not have a say in whether the state allows it or not.
