I like the sense of intimacy here, if I wanted to be a fart in a hurricane, I'd go to a mega forum.

I want to be a fart in a hurricane, - not in the quite voice in a loud forum sense, - literally be a fart in a hurricane for a while to see where it takes me.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

I've slowed down posting because I'm too busy right now and don't have enough free time to spend posting here.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

So what are you if you're not an atheist?
Nothing sounds like you're apatheist?
We need to label everything!

Once again, blowing hot air.
If the major posters here posted less what would happen is there would be less posts. There wouldn't be a sudden influx of new and prolific posters, and there's no reason to think it would be good if there was.
As the people I've met from the forum have mostly been extremely warm and lovely people, describing the core as having a rotten heart is just beyond lame.

Rotten as in stale, not malicious. I give him the benefit of the doubt and the best sense/connotation of the word.

Didn't frighten off the people from the big wave after the RDF debacle, even though most moved on a little later.Rum wrote:I post sporadically these days, often going a couple of days without posting at all. This forum is more 'social' than some of the other 'sceptic' type ones, which is one reason I suspect people find it hard to join in. Many people here are friends other than on the forum and I suspect that can be a bit intimidating for new arrivals.
The down side of that is that everybody pretty much knows how other members will respond to a post. It does make the place increasingly predictable.
So be it.

'Rotten' wasn't aimed at anyone. A word that I used that's all. 'Zombie' springs up here quite often, no one gets offended with zombie?

Mass appeal means say 10% more good threads and 90% more attention seeking nutjobs seeking attention which means more moderation, which restricts growth and inevitably turns into an echo chamber filled with nutjobs.
This place might be filled with people who know what each other is going to say from time to time. However it is one of the few places where one can talk to socialist, libertarians, doom-mongers, absurdists, liberals and even downright racists with a modicum of civility without the opposing groups version of the WBC pissing all over the threads with their stupid accusations and dumb ready made google images.
In other words this, unlike most "fora" retains the idea of being a forum.

When the human die-off happens it'll disappear completely because of its low population though....Audley Strange wrote:Mass appeal means say 10% more good threads and 90% more attention seeking nutjobs seeking attention which means more moderation, which restricts growth and inevitably turns into an echo chamber filled with nutjobs.

Your OP was badly worded and could easily have been interpreted in the light Rachel thought. Given your history of utter negativity it isn't at all surprising that people would think the worst.

Whereas I usually think the wurst. That's right, I've mostly got sausages on my mind
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.
