He'd wanted to discuss the glories of the classical world with whatever class he had, and knowing that even the working classes were by this time enjoying exotic holidays, he asked how many of them had been to Greece. He was delighted when a forest of hands shot up, and for once they all seemed enthusiastic about his lesson. It was a wee while after that that the cross-purposes dawned on them all.....

Re: Grease - Sexist, Misogynistic, Patriarchal
In nineteen seventy something, I was a young teacher in a big secondary school in Edinburgh, and one day at break, an older teacher of Religious Education and Classical Studies came into the staffroom in the most indignant dudgeon I've ever witnessed, and told us his story.

I think it's very cleverly made, I think it tapped right into the pulse of the times, and I have always hated it.

Don't you be knocking George Hrab.
I listen to the Geologic Podcast religiously (heh) and find him to be really on-target about things and I love him. That said... I'm still working my way through episode 303 as we speak so I'll listen to this one shortly...

OK, I listened to it. Meh. Too much of a feminist spin, but I think he does make some valid points even if he goes a bit OTT about it. I think he's doing that on purpose to illustrate the film's ridiculous elements.
In any case, I like him and his show and have listened to him for years, and will continue to do so.

I haven't listened to any of his other stuff, so he may well be great. I thought this review, though, was rather ridiculous, and almost any movie can be reviewed in a similar fashion. It is ApeLust to a T.

Yes, the point is that movies about teen angst, teen love and coming of age, are really about teen rape, teen sexism and the transition from teen to patriarchal oppressor.rainbow wrote:Is there a point to all this?

Grease is important, given the current popularity of anal sex.
