OK, so no matter who was chosen I'd have the same response... Who? :coffee:
The name doesn't matter, nor the nationality that much. But I know enough religious history to know he is the first Stormtrooper of God* to be elected Pope.

He's a "conservative" pope. Good news for us - the church will just continue to decay.

From the National Catholic Register:
Bergoglio is seen an unwaveringly orthodox on matters of sexual morality, staunchly opposing abortion, same-sex marriage, and contraception. In 2010 he asserted that gay adoption is a form of discrimination against children
Contemptible.

Difficult to prove much if the evidence got dropped into a live volcano. :dunno:

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

As I said on RatSkep. I'm glad it wasn't an Irish pope was picked. Irish people are such nationalistic eejits it probably would've caused a resurgence.
