New fad, recording your trip.
Just got an advert for a system that records four different views from your vehicle. It stores X amount of footage, depending on how much you buy, of course, and overwrites when the storage is full. "Great for use if there is an accident!"
But I wonder, can you subpoena that footage?

Would this be something like the Russian dashboard cams that recorded the recent meteor? AFAIK, those cams are designed to record traffic accidents, as there are a lot of fraudulent accident claims in Russia.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Just got an advert for a system that records four different views from your vehicle. That shit is getting popular after all the footage those Russians captured of the meteor hit with their front car recording devices.

Yeah, but the system has four cameras. It can be set to record low-light and motion-triggered, so you can use it in parking lots. GPS-enabled, of course, Lo-Jack type system I think.klr wrote:Would this be something like the Russian dashboard cams that recorded the recent meteor? I don't see why you couldn't subpoena that footage...

That just ratchets up the CCTV issue, I think.hadespussercats wrote:I don't see why you couldn't subpoena that footage...

I'm not sure what the policy is on CCTV.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:That just ratchets up the CCTV issue, I think.hadespussercats wrote:I don't see why you couldn't subpoena that footage...
But if you can use the footage in court in support of your suit, stands to reason your opponent would be able to use it for theirs.

Though you may not need volunteer the information that you have one. And even a President's secretary can accidentally erase recordings

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

The Russians love these things. Whether or not they use them for insurance claims, they all seem, to end up on Live Leak: http://www.liveleak.com/browse?q=car+accident+russia
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

I could have used a system like that in the early 70s...
