Actually, using a hand in sex play is rather common. A gun though?Gallstones wrote:I've never used a hand or long gun for sexplay. What kind of sicko are you?

One who has lots of fun. I admit, though, that in due course the hand stops being used. Alternatives are even more fun.Kristie wrote: You use your hand in sex play!?!? What kind of sicko are you?!?

Unless you prefer that I pretend to believe that you didn't know that.

If you use careless wording, you can expect it be a source of humor.Gallstones wrote:

The whole point of those anecdotes, though, was to point out the stupidity of using anecdotes in argument. If I were to lower myself to that level seriously, instead of trying to use it for a gentle ribbing, I could research hundreds of cases where 'law abiding' gun owners used their guns for murder or other nefarious acts. Those anecdotes would mean no more than the anecdotes you and Seth provide, because anecdotes cannot rationally be used to derive generalisations.

The US will continue with it's obsession with self-defence by guns. On rare occasions, this will result in a violent criminal being killed or deterred from committing a violent crime. Mostly, it will result in a considerably higher death toll than the civilised world.
Meanwhile, the civilised world will maintain its relatively tight gun laws. On rare occasions, this will result in a situation where an act of violence could have been prevented by an armed civilian. Mostly, it will result in the continuation of vastly lower homicide rates than the USA...

Miami Man Fatally Shoots Armed Robber Outside His Apartment
shutterstock.com
On Tuesday night, an armed would-be robber approached a Miami man outside his apartment building and demanded his belongings.
Though it is not clear why, the robber then shot the victim in the hand. He didn’t know it at the time, but it would turn out to be a senseless violent act that cost him his life.
The victim, whose injury was said to be non-life threatening, then pulled out his own handgun in self-defense and shot his attacker several times. The violent robber later died at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital due to his injuries.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, they found two men had been wounded, one critically.
Police are investigating the initial shooting by the would-be robber. No charges have been filed against the victim.
No further details were immediately available.

While I applaud the monomaniacal effort that has gone into this series of threads, it would have been more parsimonious to just post a link to the wiki article on confirmation bias.

No, Blind groper is saying that the man could get to and use the gun as easily as the woman could. And the statistics bear this out.Seth wrote:Blind groper wrote: But your views on guns held by women are simply wrong. When there is a gun in the home, the probability of the woman being murdered increases three fold. This is because her male partner is then a lot more likely to shoot her. This happens inside the home.
So you're saying that an attacked woman can't use a gun in her own home? Balderdash.
What "tactics" should a woman use to keep a self defense weapon in the house accessible to her but not her husband? To prevent him from having access, it could be in a safe, but then it wouldn't be easily accessible to her when needed. And, as GS said:That's tactics, not policy. Just because SOME women may be bad tactical planners is no reason to deny everyone the ability to use good tactics and tools to defend themselves. No one, male or female, in the sanctity of their own home, carries a hand gun all the time. it is put aside - hopefully into a gun safe, but much too often simply into a drawer. Then we get a domestic, in which the male partner gets angry. He grabs a gun, which will very likely be his wife's gun, and shoots her. Even if she owns a gun, she will almost certainly not have it on her. After all, this is inside the 'safety' of her own home.
Now, if GS is correct, that a self defense weapon should be "readily reachable/grabbable by adults", then the man could reach/grab it just as easily as the woman could. So what "tactics" should she use, Seth?Gallstones wrote:1. A self defense weapon should be accessible, not stored away in a closet (or gun safe etc).
I believe that if one makes the choice to defend using a weapon they have to mean it and that weapon needs to be accessible in the very moment.
It was on the American Rifleman program this morning that there are devices that allow a shotgun to be stored out of reach of children but readily reachable/grabbable by adults.
I don't think you've thought this one through very well.
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

This is getting fucking retarded. Parents are creating hoplophobes, and that is emotional abuse. It is as much abuse as threatening children with hell.

She carries it on her person Orph. It isn't necessesarily comfortable or convenient, but a person gets accustomed to it and it becomes normal, a part of you, after only a small bit of time. The right holster--no need to conceal in one's home--helps a lot.
