Liveblogging the Oscars 2013!

Post by hadespussercats » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:44 pm

All right, guys! Let's do this!

Last year's thread here: http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... it=+oscars
I don't think I'll be able to follow with quite the same devotion as last year, since my toddler's bedtime is right in the middle of the opening ceremonies, as it were. But we'll give it the old Harvard try.

So, yeah. I haven't seen anything. Well, except "The Hobbit," which is up for some technical awards. But I won't let that stop me from having an opinion!

Please, come on and join in! Who are your picks this year? Who will make you slit your wrists if they win? Who's HOT? Who's... not?

I don't have TV anymore... is there anyplace to watch it online?

PS: I have seen literally NOTHING and probably won't know who any of the younger actors are. :sigh:

Did any of you see Tosh's spoiler alerts for the best picture nominees this year? HI-larious. He alctually sort of talked me out of wanting to see "Silver Linings Playbook"-- which actually sounds like it might be basically a mish mash of "As Good As It Gets" with "Little Miss Sunshine," except with hotter leads.

Although I do like that J. Lawrence chick-- her acceptance speech at the Golden globes was delightful, despite becoming a stupid controversy.

I think the Best Picture will either be Argo or Lincoln. Probably because those are the only two contenders that I've seen. Between them, I'd prefer Lincoln to win.

I'll find out tomorrow though. I don't watch the Oscars. :shifty:

I think Lincoln will probably get it. Even though it sounds totally tiresome. Because Lincoln. And Spielberg.

Did I mention I hate Sally Field? I hate her. I really, really hate her.

Why?

Lincoln was definitely not tiresome. I enjoyed it even though I was sick when I watched it.

Oh. Well. It's been billed as a Very Important Film. And Sally Field.

Who is on the Red carpet right now, incidentally. In red organza. Large, ruffled skirt. Weird waist. needs a belt. Crew Neck looks matronly. Good color for her, though.

Jennifer Lawrence looks adorable, but also as though she's on her way to Prom 1987.

Amy Adams--- a little Swan Lake, but I think I like it. Though her dress makes her look flat as a board, and her hair isn't as brilliant as it has been.

I like Daniel Day Lewis, and I think his casting was a master stroke. I'm glad to hear you liked it.

Oh. Wait. Were you asking why I hate Sally Field?

Eh. So off-putting. Fragile and full of herself all at the same time. Smiling too big, looks nervous even though she's supposedly cute. Hated a lot of the roles she's played, too-- see Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire, Punchline, Steel Magnolias. Figure she wouldn't fit so neatly into such unpleasant roles if it weren't something of a match, personality-wise (I realize that's not entirely fair, but typecasting is real, and they do it cuz it works.)
