Re: Your heritage?
Hmm. I thought I'd posted earlier in this thread but it looks like I didn't ...
I'm English.
My parents were born in England.
My paternal grandparents were born in England.
My maternal grandparents were born in England.
Some of their parents came from Wales and Ireland. And England. (The mad grandparent insisted on a Romanian (or possibly Bulgarian) distant relative too.)
My family name (which I share with lofuji) apparently originates with a particular wave of Nordic settlers, way back when.

Very cool! Were they lucky to make it out, or was Mother Russia happy to have fewer mouths to feed at the time?Bella Fortuna wrote:I just found online my paternal grandfather's entry on a ship manifest from when they came over from Russia in 1922 to escape the madness there. Cheers to the internet!

Re: Your heritage?
I recently learned that the Nantes side of my family had blue blood, not just the Norman side... descent from the family that were Mayor of Nantes in 1700.

My husband's descended from him. I'm descended from his brother Lionel. John of Gaunt's brother, I mean-- not my husband's.Făkünamę wrote:I'm a descendant of John O' Gaunt.. apparently. I want my castle back (or Lancashire.. whatever).
