I looked into this yesterday and as far as I can tell it has no basis in fact. No mainstream newspaper outside Italy has covered the story either.
I'm sure that they wouldn't, without a cast-iron story.
No paper would want to risk a catholic backlash, if they got it wrong. Nobody would want that "scoop".

They would probably prefer to hang back, till someone else stuck their head up out of the trench.

Having said that, the blog said that Italian newspapers were reporting stuff, but he gave no links whatsoever, so it probably is an invention.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

And you can tell from the author of that particular webpage (that everyone seems to be copying) is really reliable. Check out his 100,000 visions.

And on the eve of the race meeting, Cardinal Turkson leads the field at 11/4 with Archbishop Scola challenging strongly at 3/1, both of them hotly pursued by Cardinals Ouellet and Bertone, neck and neck at 6/1.

Cardinal O'Brien has been withdrawn by his stable.

Nor will he be voting, which is possibly more important. Doubtless the bookies have factored this in. :smug:

The ideal new pope would be black, and a woman.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

The Catholic church would prefer 'asexual'.

There was an amusing SF story many years ago about the election of the first robot pope - I've forgotten the author...

There was the story about the astronaut who saw God.

He came back to Earth beaming and with joy shining from every part of him. The news media asked him : "What is God like?"

"Well", said the astronaut. "For a start, She's black.............."

Apparently the Pope has delivered his final sermon-
