Alice was excellent, but you can live without the 3D. They weren't in-your-face about it.
This one of those movies where you'll be seeing something new on the periphery every time you watch it.

Re: The Uber Tim Burton Film Thread
I saw Alice in Wonderland yesterday and I liked it, the effects were wonderful and the actress did a good job and Johnny Depp was spot on as always. I really don't have any major problems with this movie but I do wish they had ramped up the blood and gore a bit for the Red Queen. After all as a fusion of the Red Queen and Queen of Hearts I was hoping to see lots and lots of heads role rather than statues of them in the moat after the fact...
But then again I'm a sucker for violence.
Oh and I was hoping that the Cheshire Cat in AIW would have been more like the original in the books which had a LOT more hidden menace than what was conveyed in the movie version.

I don't think there was much malice in the cat the way Carroll wrote it, either. I think a lot of that was added with John Tenniel's illustrations. I think it was originally meant to be confusing more than anything else.Mishakal wrote:Oh and I was hoping that the Cheshire Cat in AIW would have been more like the original in the books which had a LOT more hidden menace than what was conveyed in the movie version.

Bumping this because I've just watched Big Fish and it made me happy and sad.
I want to remember how to feel like life is a fairytale, an adventure, an incredible journey spiralling though the cosmos.

I so wanted to like Big Fish but it left me cold. I wouldn't mind watching it again, though.
I fucking hated Corpse Bride so much.
But I think I'm the only person alive who loved his Planet of the Apes
Always meant to watch Mars Attacks! but never have.

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

I liked it too-- though it's not a popular choice.PsychoSerenity wrote:Bumping this because I've just watched Big Fish and it made me happy and sad.

I thought the scenes with HBC were weak. But some of the scenes made me weepy. And it was pretty to look at.
Also-- the casting with Ewan MacGregor and Albert Finney was brilliant. Have you ever seen pics of Finney when he was young? He and Ewan look so much alike it's hard to believe they're not actually related.
