Funny how people against the death penalty don't seem to mind jail house murders of prisoners.

There's a difference between the state sanctioning murder as punishment, and a bit of natural justice. But having said that, I'd expect prisons where this happened to tighten up their security in this regard.

Yeah, I always find this concept bizarre. Like regular murderers are some sort of paragon of morality that they can judge other worse criminals.

There are heinous murderers and then your everyday murdering scum. If you can't dig that you'll not live very long in a lawless land.

I don't buy it. Most murderers are immoral scum. If I was to be a murderer, I would be a Dexter like murderer. In that case, I would be morally superior.

There are all kinds of murderers. Impossible to generalize with such a diverse crowd. Don't know any I'm aware of but I've met some people that might be in my life.

Something about on one level thinking "Oh you poor pathetic malfunctioning human" while on a gut level feeling something more along the lines of "Die scum!"

Anyway, I'd rather be non-existent than live with having tortured and killed a child.

Actually, you might find more criminals with broken necks and crushed windpipes, unless they use the chair or the needle.

The reason for this counter-intuitive statistic is that people on death row use every legal avenue they can to avoid the penalty. This means appeals, new court cases, and legal shenanigans of all kinds. When a single trial can cost millions, it is much cheaper to keep them in prison ($100,000 per year) for life.

So why not avoid all the ethical problems of the death penalty, and simply lock them up till they die of old age? In fact, I would suggest releasing them when they get too old to walk normally. An infirm geriatric is not much of a risk to society.
