They don't all have hordes of gun totin' Seths, just a spoilin' for a chance to shoot an enemy.

I don't think I'd be comfortable being on the enemy list of a gun club, a proportion of which are clear nuts. It's one thing to be on A+'s enemy list, the most they'll do is bore me to death, but the NRA I would see as a clear and present danger. I'd have to set up my own counter gun club in retaliation.

You are far,far more likely to be murdered by an Obama voter than an NRA "gun nut".
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

In New Zealand?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Statistically, the person most likely to murder me is a member of my family or a friend. That has nothing to do with who that person votes for.

However, in the USA, and again quoting statistics, the likelihood of being murdered increases substantially if there is a gun in the house. Lots of guys get murdered by being shot with their own gun, when an angry member of family, friend or acquaintance grabs that gun. Of course, even more murders happen when the gun owner digs it out and shoots female partner or friend or acquaintance.

We had a case here in NZ just yesterday, when a guy who got mad with a 'friend' pulled a knife and stabbed him in his right eye. The knife has now been removed by a surgeon, and the victim will survive, albeit with one blind eye. Had there been a hand gun involved, he would now be dead.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.
