"Pontiff" is a really funny word, isn't it? It's short for "pontifex" - the builder of bridges. And the "-fex" bit is the "builder" bit, and the "ponti" bit is the bit about bridges. So stopping the word at "-iff" is a bit like cuttin it off by the pooches, and adding the second "f" is most odd, because I'm not sure Latin ever has a double "f".

Anyway, the linguistic oddity is of course nothing compared to the woo. That's most bizarre.

I looked into this yesterday and as far as I can tell it has no basis in fact. No mainstream newspaper outside Italy has covered the story either.

I think Berlusconi's would be tame by comparison: probably all of his many sexual partners have been over 16, and female: I doubt very much if you could say the same for Ratzy boy.
