Why do people keep lists of enemies?

Why do people keep lists of enemies?

The National Rifle Association has published an index of its opponents. What's the point of itemising your foes?

Britney Spears is on there. So, too, was Barry Manilow, the makers of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and R&B crooners Boyz II Men.

There's also George Clooney, the Kansas City Royals baseball team, Chaka Khan, Hallmark greeting cards and the American Nurses Association.

This rather disparate group might not appear, at first glance, to have much in common.

But the names of all of them are on a list drawn up by the National Rifle Association (NRA) - an influential firearms lobbying group - of those it deems to be its opponents.

(continued, why would the NRA do that? )
What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

Come the revolution, they'll know who goes to the wall first.

Well duh, they're a political lobbying group - they're trying to affect the pocketbooks of these people and organisations on their hit list, encouraging their rabid lock-step members to not give them their money.

So it's less distance to scroll past their posts.

I keep a list of friends and everyone else is an enemy. Easier that way.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Chaka Khan, Gloria Estefan, Barry Manilow... enemies?

The NRA is hilarious.

Add some Billy Ocean, El Debarge, Lionel Richie, Tiffany, and Kenny Loggins, and you've got yourself party!

Give 'em time, Jim.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

That could actually be reversed. If the anti-gun lobby could draw up a list of gun-supporting politicians and companies and individuals, people could avoid voting for them, or buying their stuff. It could actually be a very powerful weapon against the gun lobby.

Of course, that list would now have to include Barak Obama.

Every political group has lists of supporting and nonsupporting groups.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
