"The North Korean regime's reckless disregard for the global will is again on display," Baird said. "What makes such actions even more unconscionable is the fact that the North Korean people starve and are denied their basic human dignity while the Pyongyang regime squanders limited resources."
.......pot? Kettle? Black?....meanwhile canada has squandered over 20 billion in Afghanistan for what again? Oh yah...nothing. Not that I think it's great NK has nukes, but it is quite hypocritical for western governments to condemn a nuclear test while they themselves are armed to the teeth with nukes.

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

In one sense I agree, there is definite hypocrisy, but the unstable nature of the NK regime makes for real concern none the less...

Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.
Blah blah blah blah blah!
Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.
Life is glorious.

Not only hypocrisy but extreme arrogance. Do NK people think america is "unstable" and/or dangerous?

In the mean time, I'm right in the middle of my nuclear energy unit for the senior physics students...
Plenty of current events for them to mull over, since I want them to think about not just the physics, but the political and social dimensions...

From memory, I think we did at one stage.

I think not - we rode on the coattails of you lot (given the earlier testing of your nukes on our territory), then the Yanks when you looked a little shopworn...
We do produce a very high proportion of the world's U-235 supply, which must count for something, and we run a small nuclear reactor in Sydney to generate radio-isotopes for medical purposes...
It is actually my favourite Physics unit to teach - I love positrons!

Don't know how trustworthy or accurate this site is:
In 1956, the Australian Minister for Air, Athol Townley, asked the Minister for Defence, Philip McBride, to try to acquire nuclear weapons from the British to arm Australia’s new squadron of Canberra medium jet bombers. But McBride’s approach was hampered by a reluctant Prime Minister, Robert Menzies, head of the Liberal-Country party coalition government. Menzies thought that such weapons should be left in the hands of the three great powers that already had them – the United States, United Kingdom and the USSR – and in those of no other.
