No one should get a prize or be congratulated on passing any of this shit, more like...well..about time you grew up, lets move on.
Well, the problem is it's not a given, and a lot of people do care about it, especially those who don't want it. And this is in a relatively liberal country.

People are free to discuss any other issues that they wish, any time.
It's a given, fuck anyone who cares about it. There are some people out there that still believe we should have slaves or that women shouldn't vote...who cares? It's a non-issue.
Christ Almighty ... if only life were so easy. Just wish away any problem that you don't think should be an "issue", because it's rooted in social attitudes.

There are critical issues bound up with marriage, including property rights and taxation.
Nothing to do with "wishing something away", has to do with growing the fuck up. Social attitudes? Fuck, it's 2013 for fuck sake.
It really doesn't matter what year it is. There's a problem, it's now being resolved - end of. Why is it a "non-issue" for you? Because it doensn't affect you personally? Because it's happening in another country?

It does matter what year it is. Good it's resolved, yipee! Good stuff, just don't expect a pat on the back for it. Not you personally, but governments.
klr wrote:Why is it a "non-issue" for you?
Because it is a non issue. Gays and lesbians want to get married, so get married. End of conversation.

No.

and no.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

With such monumental and myopic pig-headedness, I don't know how on earth you ever expect problems are going to get addressed, especially the issues that you care about*.

Look, sandinista, perhaps we're talking at cross-purposes. I agree that the idiots in government who opposed gay marriage ought not to be congratulated too heartily for finally doing the right thing. It's way past time they did. I don't think anyone is proposing that we laud them with praise.

The point is, though, that this legal decision is not just symbolic; it has real import and affects many in serious material ways.

Celebrating an important legal victory that will change people's lives for the better is not the same as praising the dinosaurs who finally made the decision and patting them on the back.

And Rum, you know I love you man, but I just don't think it would work.

I mean, what about all the popcorn?

At least the children of tomorrow will grow up with gays happily parading their marriage in society. We can hope they will grow up accepting it and being more tolerant thus ending homophobia or at least massively reducing it. Hurray for equality! Hurray for communism!

Technically not Gay Marriage In The UK, but gay marriage in England and Wales. Scotland has a completely different process and legal system and is going down a different route (to achieve something roughly comparable-ish) and as for Northern Ireland ... well, hell will freeze over before such depravity shall be allowed, apparently. :lay:

Progress takes time, it doesn't happen over night. This is a good thing. Be happy for the gays!

In Ireland men are men and women know their place, in the laundry.

From what I read here, the gays know their place too. At the local pub.

Is there anywhere you can find out with MPs voted which way (or failed to turn-up for the vote)? :ask:

Also; would it be legal for the two gay threads to marry..? http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=42126
