Clocks can and have been turned back again and again - knowledge has been lost and civilizations slid backwards to be replaced by primitive alternatives. Minorities have usurped power and declared rule time and time again. It isn't even a minority but a vanguard of a population far larger than ours with a history of conversion by rape such as happened in India in the late 40s. I do think the fine clothes and the intellectual talk of the elites can make it appear all are travelling in a progressive direction but history predicts chaos, as real world variables such as oil, food and population demographics conspire to make the perfect global storm. What we need to avoid is giving power to those who would end our 300 year rationalist revolution and replace it with a static religious based society unprepared for climate change and so make ourselves, as a species, even more vulnerable to extinction. Islam as it stands today is dangerous with suicide bombings every day somewhere in the world. Most of the people who commit suicide this way are low status types, many with social or mental health issues, pushed by better educated types who never face justice. Islam is rotten but the people using it to gain power are worse than that.

Doubt if history evolves and freedoms are also somewhat variable over time. I've no hatred for Muslims. They have self-ghettoised and isolated themselves in this country. No one did this too them. It is a familiar pattern. Take a look at all of the ex-pat communities overseas. In Spain, for example, you get groups of Brits who "ghettoise" themselves, as they're more comfortable surrounded by people who speak English. If the locals don't like you very much it gives you further grounds to stick together. Which can make the locals dislike you even more.

Why be surprised if that happens here, in the UK? The solution is to treat all humans as humans.
