hmmm wild conspiracy theory? Uh, Bush lied about wmd in order to invade Iraq?Ian wrote:C'mon... lets see some blood! Somebody rant about a wild conspiracy theory.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

No no no... that's more or less conventional wisdom by now.
Although, I'm sure Seth is on the other side of that one. Maybe he'll bite.

It was a conspiracy though, just because something is conventional wisdom doesn't mean it's not a conspiracy theory. It's not like governments and other power brokers don't conspire to make things happen all the time.Ian wrote:No no no... that's more or less conventional wisdom by now.

That's the thing about conpiracies though... when they do happen they rarely stay secret, hence most people understanding Iraq for what it is (although I personally chalk up the Iraq war to negligence and wishful thinking as much as a desire to invade). Secrets and deceptions are vastly different things. Kepping the former is hard enough, and kepping the latter is nearly impossible.

Ah, no it's still a conspiracy theory. Repeating the lie doesn't make it true, no matter how many times it's repeated or how many people believe it.Ian wrote:No no no... that's more or less conventional wisdom by now.

Saddam had WMD's, not that it matters. We reinitiated hostilities after Saddam violated the cease fire agreement 14 times in 12 years, and after moving his chemical weapons stash out of Iraq into Syria just before we jumped on him.
We know this for a fact because a) he used WMDs on the Kurds in the 80s; and b) his Vice Air Marshall witnessed the transfer of Sarin-filled (among others) artillery shells by 747 and truck to Syria under the guise of being "earthquake relief."

The thing about conspiracies and secrets are also that; if someone lies to you on multiple occasions and you know that conspiracies do happen...often, then any semblance of trust is lost. It's also about the odds. If you are lied to 50 times, chances are a few slip by and are not found out. Deceptions may be difficult to pull off without being found out, doesn't man its impossible. This is doubly true when you consider those committing the conspiracies and secrets also own and control the mass media. Time is also a factor. Some conspiracies are not discovered for some time (Gulf of tonkin). Things may come out but it may take a while. To think that conspiracies don't happen is very naive. To think that all of them are reported or discovered is equally naive.Ian wrote:That's the thing about conpiracies though... when they do happen they rarely stay secret, hence most people understanding Iraq for what it is (although I personally chalk up the Iraq war to negligence and wishful thinking as much as a desire to invade). Very, very true, even if Seth cannot see it...sandinista wrote:more like sethianzilla. Come on, lets at least be honest here. Without the trolling...obama is as much of a marxist as bush was.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:SethGawdSandinista is on a roll today.

Re: Obama's Marxist politics stink so badly...
Let me entertain a little tangential diversion for a moment ...
Just out of curiosity, I decided to conduct a little experiment. I chose five other posters at random (I won't name them here), and decided to test what percentage of their posts contain certain words. The following table is informative (screen shot taken from my Excel spreadsheet):
Seth is the only person I know whose posts contain "Marxism" more often than "beer", "cheese" or "bacon" on this forum. Most other people have bugger all in the way of posts mentioning Marxism, and even those who contribute regularly to the current affairs threads still manage to mention beer, cheese and bacon more often. The above data is truly frightening to behold, and speaks of a pathological obsession on Seth's part. It's almost as if some wicked witch somewhere cast a spell on him, and the only way he can prevent the spell from causing his dick to drop off, is to post vast reams of strawman effluent on the forum about "Marxism". In my own case, my posts contain more instances of the words "taxonomy", "Pre-Raphaelite", "Neoclassical", "Tepidarium" and "Delphic Oracle" than they contain instances of the dreaded m-word, and in some cases probably contain more mentions of insect taxa than they do thereof, though this latest post will probably bugger those statistics up somewhat in order to present this analysis. Prior to this post, I had just two posts mentioning the dreaded "m" word, and frankly, I have better things to do with my time than entertain sad fantasies about anachronistic political systems, but having run the numbers, I'm now convinced that Seth can't get an erection unless he hurls invective at synthetic "Marxists" at least once per day.
It's just so fucking sad.
