I found the study in the OP to be rather counterintuitive. I've never heard a single person say that sex with condoms was just as pleasurable as sex without one.

I see the studies are not linked in the article, but a quick scan suggests that it's more about lubrication than the condoms themselves. I'm wondering who sponsored these two studies.

No. My experience was more like:

I recall that wearing one left things almost completely desensitised down there, but it's been a good many years since, so maybe things have improved in the meantime.

Except if it was ribbed or similar, then it would be about the same as without. Also, thinner rubber was always much better than thick.

I'm one of those rare Merkins who know that the Irish are not British.

I had a funny incident on my way into Canada one time. It was right after 9/11/01, and they had instituted some temporary emergency measures that you had to have proof of citizenship to cross the border. You need that now, but at the time it was an emergency thing that had not been codified. So, I'm on my way over to meet a Canadian girl I was after, and I get to the gate on the bridge, too late to turn around, and I realize I have no proof of citizenship. All I have is my drivers license. Damnit! I'm like -- ffffffuuuuuuuckkkk!!!! What am I going to do? Well, nothing to do, but be as cordial as possible and explain the situation.

So, the lady at the border leans out her little toll-like window and says, identification and citizenship please. I hand her my drivers license, and I say, "I'm sorry but all I have is my drivers license." She responds tersely, "Is a drivers license proof of citizenship, sir?" And, I said, "well, no, it is not. But, I forgot my passport. Is there some way I can get across? I'm meeting someone for dinner, and I'd hate to have to drive all the way back home." She said, "well, I'll tell you what -- I'll let you through on one condition. Tell me who the Prime Minister of Canada is?" I answered the question correctly, as I am generally up to speed on this sort of thing. She answered, "wow, very good. I guess you can go through." I then noted that I could name the previous two PMs as well, and she looked at me as if she found that to be a strange thing. I then told her that she now needed to think about something. She asked me what that was. I then said, "do you think it is more likely or less likely that I am an American, since I actually knew the correct answer to the question?" She paused in a moment of uncertainty... smiled...and said "have a nice night."

I think non-Merkins just expect us all to be dim.

I can't think of a woman I've ever known that didn't have the same negative opinion on condoms. Women will very often want sex without a condom -- at least it's not uncommon to here -- "no no...I want to feeeeelll you...." as in the direct skin contact.
