I went around to the George and Dragon, local haunt of BNP/EDL types, for a pint and to get away from the wife for a hour. Not a muslim in sight. If they were tolerant they'd be asking for a pint like one of the regulars and adapting to our culture. Not expecting us to change for them?

That's not what he was charged with.

Isn't it the same statute? Maybe the news report or the people commenting on it are just being sloppy?

Usually these statutes read like ..."it shall be unlawful to.... (a) incite hatred against a person or group of persons on account of their race, religion..."

Not sure -- that's just sort of how many of these statutes are written.

Oh come on Pappa Muslims aren't targeted for their religion but because people think their all "pakis" and other assorted brown people helped in no small part by the ignorant shite peddled in the media.

I sincerely doubt Muslims would be targeted if it was a religion predominately made up of white people.

Sstill, a religion is not a race, and religious intolerance being treated as "racial harassment" makes no legal sense.
Either the guy said stupid things while in custody and fed the prosecution all it needed, or the defender was an utter nincompoop.

It's more likely bad reporting as the offence now would be Racial or Religious... There a distinct offences for racial ( if it was racially motivated or if it was religious).

Bit worrying when the muslim says they take offending the koran, mo or mosque so seriously - it means they could take extreme offence at a certain members' tattoo, said member could then find themselves charged and imprisoned (if we're imprisoning people for causing distress).

There was a guy near here who got jail time for a pig's head mosque attack last year.

Must be a very peaceful place indeed, if it is a pig head tossed on the ground that makes a Chief Inspector of the Police "distressed and horrified." What does he do when someone gets raped or murdered? Fall into a twitching fit, bursting into tears, curling up into a fetal position and rocking back and forth?

I expect he said this for two reasons, one being to fall in with political correctness, the other (with some justification) as he was thinking ahead to the resources he'd need to deal with islamic riots...
