You can date a tv show by the cell phones in use, or lack of.
Lewis season 5 and Elementary: Smartphones.
Wallander: Nokias and Ericssons.
80s shows: clunky big cell phone.*
Dragnet: desk phone and notepad.
Dashiell Hammett book/movie. No need to track calls, just ask the operator who called the dead guy's room.
