Actually guns aren't quite illegal. They're just a lot of effort to get. And not worth it in this country. The vast amount of shootings (which isn't many) is usually gangsters killing each other. Very rarely do innocents get caught in the cross-fire.

Can someone explain something to me, 'cause I can't really remember season one, why is it they can slaughter zombies, quite bloodily, getting blood all over themselves, in their mouth, into wounds, without turning into a zombie? Why is it they have to be bitten?

I've wondered this as well. Of course, it might impede the show a bit to have them all clad in haz-mat suits all the time...

Well they don't immediately turn into a zombie if bitten, so perhaps there is either a secondary infection (being seriously bitten by a human is a dangerous thing, a dead one has got to up the stakes) or they are, which is what seems more obvious to me, a bunch of half-wits who just presume a lot of things until proved otherwise.
