The Large Hadron Collider will smash two lead nuclei together with exactly the amount of energy to create a previously unknown form of matter - ultra-strange matter. This will pull everything else together, smashing it into an amorphous blob of ultra-strange, which will continue to orbit the sun like the Earth has always done, except it will no longer look blue.

For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

I think we've already got a "blob of ultra-strange" here, don't we? It's called Audley... ;)

Actually, one to watch out for is Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands. It's an old volcano, and the large ridge to the south of the main caldera is potentially unstable. If the western flank of that ridge slides into the Atlantic Ocean, it's possible that it could generate the mother of all tsunamis. There's even a nice scientific paper covering the possibilities. Which are apparently compounded by the expected pattern of wave generation, which would see repeat instances of 20 to 25 metre tsunami waves washing over the Eastern Seaboard of the USA, possibly inundating land up to 25 Km from shore. That event would make the Sendai 2011 tsunami look like a paddling pool.
