Sweden is well on the way.
Please explain?

Ah, but they aren't anywhere close to carbon neutral either :dunno:

Sweden unveils plans to be carbon-neutral by 2050

Ahead of assuming its presidency of the European Union in July this year, Sweden has unveiled plans to put itself at the head of the fight against climate change with a pledge to be carbon-neutral by 2050.
The country was one of the first to enact carbon taxes back in 1990, but has now announced a much more ambitious plan to be carbon neutral through efforts in three areas.
“We are the first industrial country to present a very clear route to make ourselves independent of fossil energy and reduce emissions to the levels climate measures require,” says Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren.
First, the plan aims to increase energy efficiency across the board. Next, the Government aims to ramp up the country’s renewable energy production to 50% by 2020. Finally, the plan promises to transform the country’s vehicles from a reliance on fossil fuels to other sources such as ethanol or biogas. The country is also looking at the adoption of electric vehicles, powered by renewable sources such as wind.
“The Swedish business sector can be a world leader in the conversion of transport and housing that will take place all over the world,” says Carlgren. “Putting a price on emissions will stimulate efficient energy use and phase out outdated technology.”
One of the first measures will be a combination of higher taxes on polluting cars and an exemption for ‘green’ vehicles for five years. From January 1 2010, vehicles that emit less than 120 g of CO2 per kilometre will not have to pay vehicle tax – and the legislation will apply retroactively to any vehicles on the road after the beginning of July this year.
The new climate and energy policy promises to reduce Sweden’s greenhouse gas emissions by 40%. Surprisingly though, perhaps, the country is one of Europe’s largest per capita consumers of electricity.
Currently, 90% of Sweden’s energy supply comes from hydro and nuclear power. While more renewable power sources come online, the Government has said that current nuclear power stations will not be phased out by 2010, as had been planned, but will run until the end of their operational life.

I hate to say it, but I've pretty much given up on the whole global warming thing. Over a decade ago climatologists were warning us not just that it's coming, but that it was happening right now and was already having demonstrable effects. But here in the US most people didn't believe it and because of some effective efforts by monied interests, the public saw it as some sort of evil conspiracy and/or an colossal error by bumbling scientists, and one of our two political parties perpetuated those myths and used them for political gain. The end result was we not only did nothing, we thumbed our nose at the rest of the world and kept chuggin' on.

Now here we are over a decade later and the problem is getting worse, just as we were warned and over time the effects are becoming more and more prominent.

Given all the warnings were we given and how unambiguously clear the data has been all along, I'm kinda at the point where all I can say is, "We're getting exactly what we deserve".
If you don't like being called "stupid", then stop saying stupid things.

Only a decade ago? It seems like it's been going on since at least the mid 80s.

Incidentally, I'm not a climate change denier - I just like to yank MacD's chain sometimes. :hehe:

I do think climatology is an infant science however.

They were warnings about it since the 50s. Seriously since the 80s when the planet came out from under the S02 blanket that was reducing solar radiation. The fossil companies knew the score since mid 90s when their own scientists told them
Since then is been non-stop heavily funded dis-information campaign. Even despite that....there has been some positive shift
In what is perhaps a silver lining to the Pew survey, the results suggest that half of the U.S. public supports a limit on greenhouse gas emissions, even if higher energy prices result. A majority also said that the United States should join other countries in setting standards to address climate change.

Yes, infant. They have published journals along with meteorology. Woopdedoo. It's still a science in its infancy.

OH! In 1980 Sweden decided that they would be free of nuclear power in 2010. They produce much more nuclear electricity now than then. :bored:
