However, the skin colour, hair and other surface features are real, non-random, and breed true, so I guess they are in the 15 % of real, consistent variation between racially defined groups.
The important thing is that there is not going to be a lot of genetic variation other than the component responsible for the superficial (but still real) differences we observe; no room for any important genetically-derived cognitive differences, for example...

Yes, there's the obviously differences in phenotype. There's also the probabilistic predisposition of certain 'races' towards certain diseases - sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis spring to mind. The race-mythers often cite the statistic that 85% of variation occurs within a population, but conveniently fail to specify the importance of that 85%. Medical science tells us quite clearly that the 15% between populations has great impact while that 85% has a relatively negligible impact.
