Well, in this case it could actually be true.
Travellers from Ireland (a subgroup in our society - I'm not talking about tourists) make a lot of money by targetting different countries with different scams, from selling cheap shitty generators rebadged as high-end Hondas (in Paris last year study did this to poor people who need the generators for heat and light as they can't afford mains electricity), in other countries they Hulu elderly people into parting with cash for very badly asphalted driveways, and many other scams.
Last year a bunch of them were deported for running similar scams in Australia.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Brita is a popular filter here in the States, but Pur actually filters more crap out of the water. I've been laughed at for paying for filters, because historically, New York City tap water has been extremely good and safe. (So they say.) It may be so, but that's not the point. The point for me is that the buildings I've lived in have been old, with old pipes and fixtures, so even if the city water is crystal clear, it certainly isn't that way coming out of the tap.
Actually, I don't know where the crap in it comes from - could be the building; could be the city water supply. All I know is that a glass directly from the tap is a murky color for which there is no name, and I value my life too highly to be a science experiment.

I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

My water comes from a natural spring that's been capped. Probably the best tasting water I've had anywhere. Ever.
It may be old iron pipes in yer building Orph. They make the water a mix between muddy and bloody.

Yeah, that sounds about right. If it was only iron, though, I wouldn't be so wary. I've lived in buildings with rusty pipes before, and running the water for a long time usually clears it. But this stuff is nasty. It may be mostly iron but there's other crap in there, I'm sure of it. Eye of newt...Făkünamę wrote:My water comes from a natural spring that's been capped. Could there still be lead piping in your building?
Can you get the water tested?

I'm not sure; I suppose there could be. Getting the water tested is high on my to-do list.Cormac wrote:orpheus wrote:Yeah, that sounds about right. If it was only iron, though, I wouldn't be so wary. Lead would make the discolouration a sort of milky-white wouldn't it?

I don't know; sounds plausible, though. This is more of a grayish-brown. Sometimes slightly fizzy.Făkünamę wrote:Lead would make the discolouration a sort of milky-white wouldn't it?

Re: Australians warned about water purifier scams.
Sounds like someone has a cock in your water supply.Drinking water is normally clear and bright in appearance but very occasionally for a brief period it
may appear discoloured or contain particles. This is usually as a consequence of essential
maintenance on the network of pipes that bring water from the treatment work to homes. For
example the repair of a burst water main. However, sometimes when the problem keeps occurring
it is a sign that the underground supply pipe which brings water from the main in the highway into
your property is in poor condition or that harmless deposits have accumulated over time in areas
of low flow in the local water main.
What causes discoloured water?
There are two main causes of discolouration, disturbance of harmless deposits accumulated over
time in the water pipes making the water brown/black or orange and air/chalk making the water
appear white. The root cause is a change in the direction or speed of water flow in local pipes or
the entrainment of air due to operation of pumps and valves in the local network. Common causes
of such events are listed below;
Sometimes discolouration is not due to water company operations and pipes and instead it is
- a burst on water main or pump;
the opening or closing of valves;
reinstatement of a main after repairs;
changing of the settings of valves to bring water into the local network from another part of the system in order to maintain supplies due to increased consumer demand;
the use of water by third parties such as fire fighting and cleaning of drains;
the laying on of a new supply in the neighbourhood.
caused by:
- the condition of the service pipe connecting a property to the water main;
the condition of internal plumbing inside a property;
in high rise properties the operation of internal booster pumps;
operation of outside or inside stop cocks to facilitate the installation of new plumbing or to effect
plumbing repairs.
