What are they doing to solve the problem?
Making suggestions that might actually work.

Do they have other ideas?
Yes, plenty and they're given more thought than the knee-jerk reactionary drivel of the anti-gun nut solution.

Are they actively and publicly pursuing them?
Not being a US citizen, I'm doing what I can, which isn't a lot beyond actually thinking about the issue and making suggestions. Screaming 'bad guns killed our babies!' on an internet forum isn't doing much more by the way.

Or are they simply fighting to keep their guns?
My guns are not under threat.

Continue on fighting like hell on internet forums and making up strawmen to attack though. You're doing a lot of good.

(A well-considered fuck you may be in order here)

Prove me wrong then. Show me where gun proponents have campaigned for - or demanded that their Congresspeople vote for - say, better and more affordable and accessible mental health care (since mental health is one thing they point to). Does the NRA as a group demand this? Does any gun organization come out and demand a national discussion to find a way to solve the problem? I only see the anti-gun people doing this.

So far I've seen gun proponents playing defense. Their main concern is keeping their guns.
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

I'm afraid I'll have to leave it to you to prove your own contentions - burden of proof and all that. Maybe some of them here will rise to your challenge and show whatever proof you require that they're actually interested in addressing the problem and not primarily concerned with keeping their guns. FBM comes to mind.

You know, you're right. On this forum, there are a few. It's more on the national scene that I'm talking about. Anti-gun groups say "we must solve this problem of these killings. We have to come together to have a serious discussion." Groups like the NRA don't want that discussion, and on the national scene, they've not showed any real interest in solving the problem. Show me where they have; I can't prove a negative; the burden of proof is not on me.

Speaking to the illogic of this reasoning only, you make the claim they have not therefore the burden of proof is on you. Proving a negative.. isn't even wrong.

Speaking to the substance, I don't believe you actually want what you claim. I believe you want someone you can openly attack. You're hunting the boogeyman.

Speaking to the absurdity of making sweeping generalizations regarding 'groups' and casting individual blame, I should think a rational person would know better.

I am asserting the inevitable conclusion to the statistics. Unlike most of the people on this thread, I am quoting real numbers. Real facts. The conclusions are inevitable, when you accept the facts. Having a hand gun in the home increases, not decreases, the risk of a member of your family wearing a bullet hole.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.
