What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I recently made a sweeping generalisation about American people wrt the thanksgiving tradition. I shouldn't have.
I like soccer.
I don't know what the story is with Australians toadying up to Americans in the European media (do I understand that comment correctly?), but I was recently noting again how Australian politics, sport promotion and other institutions with media focus seem to have embraced a certain hype with the cultural influence the US seems to have. And wrt our politics .. the creeping conservatism is more than a tad concerning.
I like soccer.
I don't know what the story is with Australians toadying up to Americans in the European media (do I understand that comment correctly?), but I was recently noting again how Australian politics, sport promotion and other institutions with media focus seem to have embraced a certain hype with the cultural influence the US seems to have. And wrt our politics .. the creeping conservatism is more than a tad concerning.
