I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Is there a way to search for only those posts that contain personal attacks? I'd like to read them.

Don't bother!
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

That's just politics. An independent bill was never going to pass, seeing as "official" (government sanctioned) legislation is "somewhere" in the pipeline.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com ... hers-life/

The majority of people in Ireland are in favour of abortion to save a mother's life.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com ... hers-life/
There is a complicated interplay of politics going on at the moment. There has been a very vocal "pro" abortion lobby in Ireland for a long time, and they are looking to use the tragic case of Savita to push through far more than simply "abortion to save a mother's life".
Bear in mind that the constitutional and legal position in Ireland today, as clarified by the Supreme Court (and indeed, as required of doctor's in their own ethical guideline) that in a case where a mother's life is endangered by her continuing pregnancy, then abortion is perfectly legal.
So it is a lie to state, as that blogger has, that "the Irish vote down abortion to save a mother's life" - the law already allows that.
The current government has stated that it will respond to what the European Court requires. This might be a legislative response - it might not. But all that is required by the European Court is for the state to put more certainty around what constitutes a "legal abortion" in Ireland.
(I'm not sure how easy this will be to do though - the law is not a very useful mechanism to use for this - it is a square peg/round hole scenario. The law can provide a definition, but human ailments and medical responses will immediately cause that definition to be ambiguous and probably unworkable).

This story has definitely not gone away. Right now there is an inquest on (following on from one ore more reports), and yes - someone did use the "Catholic country" line to try and explain why an abortion was not allowed in the circumstances:

Of course, there is a lot more to the story than this. As I've pointed out earlier, regardless of the context of the remark, or the thinking behind it, it is factually correct.

It is factually correct.
Also, the doctor in question was completely wrong about her authority to perform a termination in the case - the law very clearly provides for legal terminations in exactly such cases.
It seems, from the evidence to date that the main factors here were delays in blood test results, and a failure to review the patient's notes during morning rounds resulted in a fatal delay. However, the reason the notes weren't reviewed is that another doctor had them.
In a busy and pressured hospital, systematic failures will eventually produce fatal consequences.
In my view, there was sufficient evidence to justify a termination and it should have been done.

Sounds like loads of excuses to not save that woman's life.
