Well, you have to be able to defend yourself against evil-doers who try to take your parking spot...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

For what it's worth, half price books does a similar thing, and they don't go around and re-price shit for the sale, so you're making shit up. Methinks you protest too much.
Yes, they do reprice things for sale. Absolutely they do. I gave you an example of the computer I bought last year, and a friend mentioned a mattress she priced that had the price raised and then discounted. I also linked to a couple of articles describing the same thing.

Prices fluctuate due to supply and demand quite a bit, and very often they do reprice items higher in order to take a discount and make customers think they're getting a deal. I once flat out caught a retailer doing that -- by happenstance -- I was in a clothes store and looked at a sweater that I liked. I looked at the price and thought that I'd just think about it due to a lack of funds. It was like a $40 sweater as I recall. I went back just days later and saw they were having a sale. I went back in, and saw that the price was no longer what I had seen a couple days ago -- it was raised up so that their 20% off sale resulted in the sweater being like $38 dollars (something like that) instead of $40. They had raised the price so they could claim they were giving me a bigger discount. I mentioned it to the sales girl there, and she didn't deny that the price had been raised -- she said "I think it's just a marketing thing..." I kid you not.

As noted early on, my reason was to spend time with my sisters, and I probably saved over $100 and waited in the cold less than 15 minutes. If you're a moron, Black Friday or no, you'll get taken advantage of.

And the degree and volume of crap you've posted in this thread shows clearly who has lost their head over something of little or no consequence.
Black Friday is awful in many ways. One, it wrecks the holidays. The holidays begin with Thanksgiving, and instead of getting to enjoy it, we get to hear nothing else these days but nonsense about Black Friday. How long are the lines? How crazy will it be? OMG, the stores are opening on Thursday now!? Will there be fights? How much security will there be? Endless commercials about sales, and now even planted news reports discussing, as serious news, the idea that overspending during the holidays is almost a patriotic duty that will "help the economy."

The overcommercialization of Christmas has been something that, for decades, has been discussed as rather a downer. Instead of peace on Earth, goodwill, charity and all sorts of things of that nature, it's become about nothing but buying garbage at cut-rate prices. I'm really surprised at how many of the supposed "liberals" on this forum are running to the defense of Black Friday. I would think that the liberal position on it would be to avoid it or even protest it. :thinks:

Yes, yes, but it's not a cybermonday sale, per se. It's just the price with what has typically been a $100 off sale. Nothing special being done for cyberMonday.

And, I started seeing commercials over the weekend for "Cyberweek." Vomitous. :|~

...shopping has a purpose other than "buying something, either for oneself or someone else?" :thinks: LOL -- wait, I forgot I was talking to a woman.... shopping doesn't have to involve "buying" at all.... :leave:

Heck no, it doesn't! It can also involve lunch, or drinks, depending on what time you 'shop'! :awesanta:

I have some very physical aversions to excessive shopping. Wandering around a mall or some such place will, after a while, make me feel dizzy and queasy. My wife knows it's time to go when she looks over and sees me pale, sweating, and slightly less-than-coherent.
