The BNP was (until 2010) restricted to "Indigenous British" in its membership, has a history of "white nationalism", including quotes in the 1990s from their own leader figures of the party being '100% racist' (they've backed off a bit since). UKIP originated in an anti-EU movement, supports tighter and restrictive immigration controls, is opposed to multi-culturalism but rejects ethnic nationalism. It's not openly racist, denies being so, and has no history of having a racist agenda. They oppose gay marriage, but support civil unions.
As the OP is about racism worries, the difference between UKIP and BNP is significant.
