I tend these days to stay away from discussing the matter because it occurred to me I genuinely don't care about either side at this point. I pity the poor Palestinian people and the poor Israeli people killed in this bullshit, but hey, people get the leaders they deserve.

No they don't. If they had true democracy, then that might be a different matter. But even then, only 50% would be getting the leaders they deserve. Except in the case of Israel, where all major parties support illegal occupation.

It's one of those things where both sides can point to horrible acts by the other as justification for their own horrible acts. Thus, the discussion usually degrades into debates about whose acts are worse (blowing up teenagers in line for a dance club vs. airstrikes on neighborhoods) and/or who started it.

Very true. It would help, though, if outsiders like the USA would stop supporting one side (Israel) and tell all of them to get their act together, or else they will all be punished (sanctions, not war).
