He and Ian get off of going at each other like this.
Now that the election's over, I'm taking a bit of a break from going back and forth over this stuff.

I'd rather get off while going at you. :naughty:
That can be arranged.
We danced.

Coito's gun count: 0. :coffee:

Not this government, Tero. The Obama administration is a necessary good. Only wants the best for the people and can do no wrong. It's the most transparent administration in American history.

The increasingly negative tenor of Coito's threads

Post by Jason » Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:14 pm

Republicans are teh butthurt.. bad butthurt.. Preparation Haemorrhage butthurt. If it isn't a crashing economy, it's a commie invasion, the rocketing cost of healthcare (for Walmart employees), or the opaque Obama administration operating behind closed doors (made in China) to nefarious, anti-American, ends.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

Conservatism has became a faith-based ecosystem, resistant to any facts that complicate its version of reality. It is driven by apocalyptic terrors. The future of the republic itself is always in danger. The Constitution is destined for the shredder. The American eagle hangs its head. Ironically, the two issues that come closest to a real existential threat — climate change and the 2008 banking crisis — don’t trigger any anxiety in conservatives, while the phantasm of a socialist dictatorship has them trembling with fear and rage.

Well, the stock market is dropping.
Unemployment is still very high, and the only reason the unemployment rate has gone down at all is because of people leaving the job market altogether.
Gas prices are high
We are doing Quantitative Easing 3, with an open end (i.e. printing money).
Interest rates are too low and we're basically recreating the housing bubble.
2013 fiscal year started with a one month deficit of $120,000,000,000 putting us on pace for a $1.4 trillion annual deficit.
Obama has 2 press conferences all year, and prescreens all the question.

Sound good to you?

In the past week. :panic:
Longer-term growth looks good.

Or, many of the long-term unemployed people have been coming back to look for work as the recovery has kept going. This is what best explains why the unemployment rate ticked up .1% last month despite the number of jobs created being even higher than the previous month.

High and dropping, yeah. While fuel standards also improve. BTW - have you noticed the recent find in the Colorado/Utah area?

Go talk to the Fed.

Says you. I think the housing market is coming back nicely; none of the previous problems which created the last bubble are resurfacing (heavy subprime lending, too many people buying, etc.)

Yep, that pretty much sucks. But how bad do you think the FY14 budget will look once a deal is done on the fiscal cliff?

I guess we'll see. I hope so. And, there are many rumblings that longer term growth does not look good.

The numbers are the numbers. We have a much smaller work force participation rate than we did in 1st Q 2009. Much smaller. If we had the same workforce participation rate now as we did when Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be over 10%.

Dropping occasionally. Rising occasionally. They've remained very high overall.

On what basis do you claim it is coming back nicely? I just bought a house, so I hope you're right.

I expect not much different.

He's the only President that excuse works for. We've had elections before, you know. Why do you think he's, for years, had so few press conferences? Is it because he just works so much harder than other Presidents? He's so much busier? I mean - if you take that position, I'll die laughing.

Me neither. Well, I have invested in some canned foods because of hurricane risk. I've invested in a generator and long term food supplies. This doubles as a general disaster preparedness thing.

I have been kicking around the idea of buying a rifle or a shotgun, though. Some sort of hunting weapon. Hmmm... that might be worth a thread in and of itself.

Prepare for heavy blowback from Blind Groper. :prof:

And keep it someplace where the kids won't be able to get at it someday. I have a little safe for my handgun, and only myself and my wife even know that a gun exists in there.

I'm thinking for both hunting and home defense, a long gun is a better option for me. But, I'm not positive. I also expect I could more easily learn to accurately shoot a long gun than a handgun.

I plan on keeping it under the bed. Little She would never look there. :{D

To further derail this thread, I have one 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun, two .30 cal rifles (one .308 and one .303), one .22 magnum rifle, and one .22LR rifle under my bed. I've also got 100+ rounds in my bedside drawer and a couple hundred more in the closet. Safe. :teef:

I've got not doubt the US economy as well as the world economy is going down the toilet. It's not specifically going to be Obama's fault though. The real problem is neo-liberalism and the coming climate disaster. The truth is, the decline would be quicker under the repubs than the dems, but it's equivalent to that phrase "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic". I've started stockpiling. I want some guns. I've shot a few before, but besides that, have no experience with them and what to get. On facebook I came across a link to some guy in the US who's made high powered air rifles that shoot up to a .5 caliber projectile. He hunts big game with them. Makes them to order. I figure when the shit hits the fan, compressed air will be easier to come across than gunpowder. Might get me one of them..

You'll run out too soon, Ian. Toilet paper, that's the future of barter. Toilet paper, cigarettes, alcohol and .22 LR.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

So, then I guess neoliberalism isn't the problem, since if it we were operating under neoliberalism then we would have liberty. Liberty is what neoliberals want and what neoliberalism is all about.
