I guess my underlying concern is that they don't resort to spectacle instead of character/plot development. If they KISS it on the special effects that will be better, IMO. There's a recent interview with Lucas where he says he regretted having to cut about 100 special effects shots from the original movie, AKA A New Hope, because of budget. I think it was a better movie for that.

The same thing happened to Spielberg on Jaws. Bruce the mechanical shark wasn't made to operate in saltwater - WTF? So, they improvised a lot of shots, like the shark towing the orange buoys, which meant we didn't get to see the monster until late in the movie. Better.

I go to these movies for the eye candy, I don't hope for a plot.

Yeah. I liked Empire with the puppet Wampa. I also liked puppet Yoda better than CGI ninja-freak Yoda. Sometimes less is more.

I hope they turn the series around and aim it more at adults, while including the 12-18 crowd, instead of the sci fi pablum for 8 year olds it has become.

Action stories that work require that the protagonists GO somewhere.

Where will they GO?

Okay, first you have to remember that there were a lot of Empire baddies that didn't die on DS II. So they could be up to all kinds of nefarious deeds. Let's pretend that Palpatine had a backup plan, a nest of Sith hidden away, waiting for the "non-signal signal", or the failure to receive a "stay put" signal on schedule.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too - the Sith nest.

:sigh: I hate Lucas.. he just keeps raping my inner child. It would be like if Disney bought the rights to the Tolkien IP and made some absolutely idiotic prequels to The Hobbit with a retarded goblin called Gob-Gob and a plot and character depth of Bob the Builder and their mission was to defeat the dread lord Tinky Winky in the land of the Teletubbies and THEN went on to announce sequels to the original trilogy with Frodo returning from the Grey Havens to teach all the little hobbits that they can fly if only they believe in themselves and Gandalf returns from living under the sea on a dire mission to tell all Middle Earth that everything's better down where it's wetter.

The nest could be in suspended animation. Imperial forces rally 'round them, building quietly on some remote world, like Dantooine.

Fuck.

I'm never going to watch the movie version of The Hobbit NOW!

Ohhhh, that sounds like a fantastic movie! I think it's been done though.

Be afraid if Disney buys Lego before they start shooting.
