I'm not sure I could go with that. If they got a candidate with the right qualities, they can always win.

It's not a question of whether they can win, it's how it's becoming increasingly more difficult for them to win. The data shows that they are losing the Latino vote by a bigger margin each election. As the Latino population continues to grow, that's not a good thing for the GOP.

It used to be that you could win a certain percentage of the white vote and essentially discount everyone else. You can't do that any more.

His problems were his loony religion, his backtracking to get the nomination, and the dirty tricks that the republicans got up to in the election. Any one of those would have put me off voting for him, if I was undecided.
I'm sure there were republicans out there who COULD have beat Obama.

Again, I'm not saying it's impossible for Republicans to ever win again. But look at the field of candidates they put out during the primaries. They were falling all over each other to see who could be the toughest on immigration. Heck, some of them were even talking about electrified fences!

That sort of thing may play with the angry white tea baggers who equate Latino with "illegal immigrant", but all it does is send a very clear message to Latino's....the Republican Party doesn't like you....at all.

Put that together with their historic treatment of blacks, and their increasing aggression towards women...and well...you end up where we are today. They can't even beat a President who by all other measures, should have been very beatable. And not only did they not take back the Senate, they actually lost seats! The Democratic control of the Senate is directly attributable to the tea party and the loonies they nominate. If the GOP had sent up moderate, competent candidates they would easily be in control of the Senate.

If this isn't a wake up call for the GOP then I don't know what is. Stop pandering to the religious loons.

Romney made a critical mistake when he tracked right of Perry on immigration. Had he not done that he would have done much better in the Hispanic community. Hispanics are HUGE voting blocks in several of the key states he lost - Florida, Colorado and New Mexico, for starters. He "self deported" himself right out of the White House. His 47% comment didn't help, either, because it pissed off a lot of seniors. Why did he say it? It was completely unnecessary, it was at a private fundraiser and he was preaching to the choir. All he needed to do was mouth a few platitudes, shake a few hands and collect a few checks. Instead he opened his mouth and inserted his entire leg all the way down his throat till his foot came out his ass. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Lesson for future candidates - the mike is ALWAYS on.
