No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

Re: Merica does it right!
You know who had a better night than Obama? Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight. His predictions, once again, were amazingly accurate. So let's be done with election prediction models that have nothing to do with actual poll numbers (e.g. ones that are based on economic conditions). And the laughable "unskewed" Republican poll models and summaries were proven to be delusional, again reflecting that the conservative mindset of "If the data doesn't tell me what I want, the data is wrong" just doesn't work. And can we be done with Dick Morris and Newt Gingrich, both of whom predicted Romney landslides? Nah...they'll both still have good-paying jobs at Fox News. Go figure.

Nice! Meanspirited as well as thoughtless and humorless. Great combo, but not surprising.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:This is why I call you a hypocrite and an asshole.Coito ergo sum wrote:Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Stillgot nothing I see.Coito ergo sum wrote:Fast forward to September 2016 -- Gawdzilla quote, "Obama couldn't be expected to fix the economy in only 8 years. Re: Merica does it right!
The other big take away from last night is that the Republican Party has a very serious demographic problem. Every network (including Fox) was talking about how the GOP just cannot continue to be the party of the angry white male and expect to win very many national elections.
It'll be interesting to see over the next few years how they attempt to appeal to minorities, women, and the young while not alienating the tea baggers. It seems to me, the more you pull towards one, the more you push away the others.

I'm not sure I could go with that. If they got a candidate with the right qualities, they can always win.Gerald McGrew wrote:The other big take away from last night is that the Republican Party has a very serious demographic problem. I thought that Romney was superficially an attractive candidate, but didn't have fundamental gravitas.
His problems were his loony religion, his backtracking to get the nomination, and the dirty tricks that the republicans got up to in the election. Any one of those would have put me off voting for him, if I was undecided.
I'm sure there were republicans out there who COULD have beat Obama.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

If this isn't a wake up call for the GOP then I don't know what is. Stop pandering to the religious loons. Stop harping on about abortion. Stop with the "legitimate rape" and "god's will" horseshit. If they don't get the message they'll go the way of the Bull Moose Party and the Whigs. Maybe some of you would be OK with a one-party state, but I certainly don't want to see it.
Romney made a critical mistake when he tracked right of Perry on immigration. Had he not done that he would have done much better in the Hispanic community. Hispanics are HUGE voting blocks in several of the key states he lost - Florida, Colorado and New Mexico, for starters. He "self deported" himself right out of the White House. His 47% comment didn't help, either, because it pissed off a lot of seniors. Why did he say it? It was completely unnecessary, it was at a private fundraiser and he was preaching to the choir. All he needed to do was mouth a few platitudes, shake a few hands and collect a few checks. Instead he opened his mouth and inserted his entire leg all the way down his throat till his foot came out his ass. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Lesson for future candidates - the mike is ALWAYS on.
